Day Three

7:00am...RISE AND SHINE!!!!

I'm not sure about every kid, but I'm pretty sure that most haven't seen 7:00am since school let out. And, to be honest, most of the kids were up by 6:30am. Campers had to have their rooms cleaned, beds made, showers taken and be outside in formation by 7:15am.

By 7:30am the kids were lined up, in formation, in their respective Districts, behind Twin Towers. Now was the time to see exactly how awake they really were. The Senior and Junior Counselors began explaining what dress-and-cover means, getting everyone in straight lines and yelling cadences. You see, which ever District was the loudest, well, they got to eat first. Plus, this is a friendly competition to see who could come up with the best or funniest cadences throughout the week. As the week wore on, I'll be the first to admit, they got pretty funny.

Cpl. Will Jordan, of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, takes over and makes the morning announcements. Cpl. Jordon, better known as "Big Will", demands the respect and the attention of the kids. If you saw Cpl. Jordan at Graduation, you can understand why!

Today is really their first full day and already we have someone in trouble! One of our Senior Counselors, who shall remain nameless for right now, decided to wear his hat in the building. After 3 years of camp, you would think he would have known better. This Senior is called to the front of all the kids to perform his task.

The kids fall out to breakfast and are lined back up by 8:45am. Here comes their first real marching experience! They have to march from the dorms to the Student Center for their first class. This was quite a sight to behold. (thankfully they got a lot of practice and got better as the week continued) It must be tough for your left foot to hit the pavement at the same time the word "left" is yelled!

The morning classes consisted of Election Processes and Nominations from 9:00am through 10:00am. The Cadets nominated a Sherriff, Magistrate, Circuit Clerk, Circuit Court Judge and a Prosecutor. Those nominated had to "campaign" for votes. The General Election will be held on Tuesday.

From 10:00am through 11:00 they go to tour what police officers lovingly refer to as the B.A.T. Mobile. The B.A.T. Mobile is a DUI Enforcement and Command vehicle. More simply put, it is a police station on wheels, complete with holding cells.
